Phil 4:10-20
Many people will tell you about how hope is an essential element to living a happy and successful life, but people disagree on what we should put our hope in. People try to put their hope in their circumstances, their family and friends, or the power of positive thinking, but eventually all of these things will let us down and we will end up in cynicism and despair. The apostle Paul writes to the Philippians from a Roman jail that he has found contentment because his hope is not in his circumstances, his status, or even the people around him, but in Jesus Christ, who God raised from dead, and this hope will never fail. On Easter we take time to remember that our ultimate hope is that we are reconciled to God if we trust in Christ because He bore our sins when he was crucified, and one God will raise us from death just as He raised Jesus from death on that momentous Sunday morning almost two thousand years ago.
