I grew up primarily in Eastern Washington. I learned about Christ from my parents, Sunday School Teachers, and a Youth Pastor kind enough to tell it to me straight. I expressed faith in Christ early on, but drifted back and forth until my 2nd year in High School. A change in my self-centered and primarily depressing existence began when my very blunt, but caring, Youth Pastor confronted me about the very real possibility that I was wasting my life. I was naturally offended, but after some soul searching decided that he was right. I began to consider the claims of Christ again, and after much soul-searching dedicated my life to Christ.
II Tim 1 …For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
God, very quickly began to test my new resolve. I got involved quickly in service opportunities at church and jumped in wherever there was need. Very soon I concluded that God was calling me into full-time ministry. God also began to encourage me to present what I had learned to friends, some of which I’m sure thought I had lost my mind. Through this difficult and often lonely time God taught me to rely solely on Him. Through answered prayer and Godly counsel God led me to Cedarville College where I prepared for the ministry and met (and eventually married) Kathryn, arguably the most beautiful woman on the planet.
Philippians 4…Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to get along happily whether I have much or little. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need.
After College God continued to prepare me for the ministry through internships, part and full-time ministry positions, seminary, and Graduate School. He also taught me a great deal through giving me four wonderful children, Nathan, Carolyn, Alaina, and Elizabeth. As I was finishing my research for my dissertation God called me to my biggest challenge thus far in life – to plant a church in Issaquah. In the midst of this thrilling and daunting calling I have found that God’s comfort and provision are both very real.
